Citizens Fire Academy

Our annual Citizens Fire Academy enhances and develops the community’s awareness and understanding of our role.

Many of Mt. Lebanon’s volunteer firefighters decide they want to join the company after participating in the Mt. Lebanon Citizens’ Fire Academy. It’s a perfect look into the job of a firefighter, including simulations, demonstrations and real-world scenarios. Now, the job of a first responder has been in the spotlight and many more of you have considered answering the call to help.

Consider this your invitation to see us firsthand: The fire department is excited to bring back the Citizens’ Fire Academy for 2023. The free Academy will run September 14 through November 11. Most classes are on Wednesdays at the Public Safety Center, 555 Washington Road, but a special Saturday session will take participants to the Washington County Fire Academy. Graduation is at the Mt. Lebanon Public Safety Center on Friday, November 11. Registration is open to Mt. Lebanon residents and business owners.

Classes include such topics as: fire science, fire hose and water streams, forcible entry, search, thermal imaging, ladders, auto extrication and fire prevention.

Class spots will fill up fast as we reintroduce this community favorite program. Applications can be downloaded below and sent to Mt. Lebanon Fire Department.
